Meet the Coaches
Mr. Brian Doyle, Director of Coaching
Mr. Doyle has been Director of Coaching for the Michigan Wolves/Hawks since 2001. He has been a ODP State coach since 2002 and currently coaches the 1987 team. Additionally, he has been a Region II ODP Coach since 1993. He has a USSF “B” Coaches License.
Prior coaching commitments include: Head Coach of Cleveland State University (1982-1987 and 1993-2000), Assistant Coach of Boston University (1991-1992), Director of Players and Coaches of Excalibur Soccer Club of Ohio (1987-1989), Asst Coach of University of Maine (1989-1990), Asst Coach of Dartmouth College (1980-1982), and Asst Coach of Southern Connecticut State College (1978-1980). Mr. Doyle was awarded three different times as coach of the year while at Cleveland State University.
Mr. Doyle attended Hartwick
College in New York and played for
the varsity team from 1971-1974. He has a Masters degree in Physical
Education and a Minor in Coaching Competency.
Ed McCarthy - Ed McCarthy began
coaching the Plymouth Salem boys and girls JV teams in 1991. In
1996, he became the boys varsity coach. Since then, Salem has been
to the Division 1 State Finals three times. Ed has been an ODP coach
since '98 and joined the Wolves in '99. In 2003, Ed's U16 Wolves
captured the State Championship, the Super Y League Great Lakes title, and
the Score at the Shore (NY) Championship. He played collegiately at
Schoolcraft and Siena Heights University and has a National "B" Coaching
License.
Lars Richters -Lars Richters grew up in Livonia and was a player in the club from 1982 through 1987. After graduating from Livonia Stevenson High School, Lars went on to enjoy four outstanding years at Yale University. Following this experience, he returned to Michigan to begin a professional indoor soccer career with the Detroit Rockers of the National Professional Soccer League from 1991-1998. During his seven years with the Rockers, Lars grew more involved with coaching and joined the Wolves/Hawks in 1995. Lars has been very involved with all facets of the club. He served as Club Director of Coaching in 2000-2001, and now is the VP of the Wolves. In 2003, Lars won the Regional and National Championship as the head coach of the U18 Wolves. Currently, he works as the head coach of the U-14 Wolves and U-17Wolves, and is a teacher and the Head Boys Varsity Coach of Livonia Stevenson High School. Lars holds a USSF "B" license.
Kevin Tuite - Kevin holds a USSF "B" License; State of Michigan Teaching Certification in Physical Education/History. Currently he is the Head Coach of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy Soccer Program. They were the 2001 State Champions and he won Coach of the Year. Kevin is the Asst. Coach Plymouth Salem Girls High School, and a former Olympic Development Program Coach for both Boys and Girls (1995-2002). He has been coaching high school soccer 14 years, club soccer 16 years, and doing camps/clinics for 20 years. Keivin has managed indoor soccer complexes, referee scheduling, tournaments and leagues for 15 years. Kevin played four years Division 1 soccer for Central Michigan University, and 6 years in the Michigan Premier Men's League for Livonia Paragon. kevinsoccertuite@yahoo.com
Derek Williford - Derek grew up
playing soccer in the Livonia area for local club teams. He was a member
of the founding 1984 Vardar III team, previously called the Westside
Kids. Derek played high school soccer at Livonia Stevenson. He attended
Oakland University from 89-92, Derek captained the 92 squad that made the
final 4. He was a division II, Collegiate All- American in 1992.
He played professionally with the Detroit Neon in the CISL. Derek has
been coaching at various levels for the past 13 years. He began his
career with the 79 Wolves and currently coaches the U-13 Hawks and U-15
Hawks. He is a former coach of Birmingham Groves HS girls Varsity squad
from 1996-99. The 98 squad captured the Division 2 state title. Derek
currently holds a "C" license and he is finishing up his teaching degree
at Madonna University in secondary education.

Doug Landefeld - Doug Landefeld was the Director of Coaching for five years, and coached many successful Wolves and Hawks teams. Doug grew up in Ann Arbor and was a four year standout at Michigan State University. After graduating from college, Doug enjoyed seven years as a professional with the Detroit Rockers, from 1990 to 1997. Doug holds a "B" License, and he is currently the head coach of the U17 Wolves, the U16 Hawks, and and is the Head Coach of the Michigan Olympic Development Program
Sam Cheaib – With 25 years of both playing and coaching soccer, Sam has displayed a natural love for soccer. From 1974 to 1979, Sam was a player of the Lebanese National Team and due to his national reputation he came to the USA to participate in playing and coaching in various levels for the past twenty years. Sam’s extensive soccer experience has brought him to the club as a head coach for the U10, U11 and U12 Boys. He has participated in numerous coaching courses in the USA including the National B coaching course. He holds a “B” youth license from the Lebanese Soccer Federation, a USSF Youth License and a NSCAA National Diploma. Currently, Sam is the program director of physical education and is involved in camps and personal training.
Tim Ernst - Tim is a former high school All-American at DeSmet Jesuit High School in St. Louis Missouri. He graduated from the University of Evansville where is was the captain of his team that was ranked number one in the country and lost in the final four to Rutgers when Alexi Lalas played there. He was also a member of the US U-16 National team and also a member of the National B team in 1991. He played 11 years professional soccer with the Detroit Rockers.
Tim is currently the Super Y League ODP Midwest Divisional Head Age Group Scout for U13 Boys. He holds a USSF B license and in the past coached with the Michigan ODP for several years. He has been with the Michigan Hawks for 7 years and during that time he has won 11 state championships, 5 regional championships, been to the national championship game five times (1999-2002), and won the U-18 National Champions in 2001 and 2004 tim.ernst@sbcglobal.net
